Important post. I didn’t know that VP Biden and President Obama spoke out about this topic so much. I’m so happy they did. But I must say I doubt the current VP and President will do as much. So you are right that it must come from the people.
Its been a long time since I was in college, but I went to an all girls college (Douglass College), which is part of Rutgers University in NJ. Every year the people from the whole university would participate in a “Take back the night” event to end sexual violence. The university was famous for this event. But it can’t just be talked about on one night.

Thank you for this post. I was raped and as usual it is difficult to read this but I forced myself and I am happy that i did. As I am typing this now I am full of anxiety. I learned from your awesome post that being sexually assaulted by someone you know is the hardest to get over and I never knew that or heard that before. Thank you for that information because I never knew that and it makes sense and has helped me greatly to read that. I knew my perpetrator and even took it took it to court however this man got off because of the fact that they said I did know him, etc. I tried to help them get this dangerous man off the streets but they did not listen to me. Now he is in prison serving a 40 year prison sentence for attempted murder of someone else. I praise God he did not murde anyone and I praise God deeply that he is off the streets and I do not have to worry about him. He is in prison for about 24 more years. I am so sorry to hear that you are a victim as well. Sexual assault is one of the worst things you can do to another human being, and I greatly empathize. I want you to know that I stand with you.
I commend you for coming forward and taking this person to court- this is so brave and so many are not able to do this. How interesting that in the end, he was put in jail, though the attempted murder could have been prevented if you got justice in the first place! This system can barely be called a “justice system” sometimes.
